Basically its just a switch that increases the rpm slightly in order to warm the engine faster. As far as I know, there is no way to adjust/override the idle timing because it is a safety feature. Like.

1) Hit the brake, clutch, or accelerator when your dashboard warning light goes on just before shutdown. 2) Hit the brake and the accelerator at the same time just after you start idling. I've heard this does the trick and you can idle forever. I haven't tried this yet because my truck has been in the shop since I heard about this.
