About Jeffrey Michler. The primary focus of my research is the application of contract theory and models of industrial organization to problems of agricultural risk management and rural development. My existing research focuses on how agricultural households manage risk to achieve their goals of sustainable development and food security.

The prevalence of global food insecurity grew in 2022 as commodity prices worldwide continued to rise. The USDA, Economic Research Service estimates the number of food insecure people in 77 low- and middle-income countries in 2022 at 1.3 billion, a 10 percent increase from 2021. Moreover, almost 33 percent of the population of the 77 countries is considered food insecure in 2022.
